Sound familiar?
Your best laps happen. But, you just can’t call them up when you need them.
One session it’s there, the next it’s not
Your confidence, and your ability to drive at your best, aren’t consistent enough.
Struggle with new tracks & getting up to speed
It takes too long to learn and feel comfortable, and by then the event is almost over.
You make a mistake & it stays with you
Then you spend far too much time letting go and regaining focus on what matters.
None of these are car problems. They come from what’s happening in your head, and that can be trained.
The idea
The zone isn’t luck. It’s a skill you can practice.
Every driver has felt it: the car seems to slow down, your hands know what to do, and the lap times just come. Most drivers treat those moments as a gift. The best drivers treat them as something to build on, and make happen more often.
Over 40-plus years of coaching, I’ve found a set of tactics that help most drivers get there more often. They come from my Inner Speed Secrets program, which normally costs many hundreds of dollars or more. The Zone Program, which has been tested and proven thousands of times now, puts the most practical of them into your inbox, one day at a time.

“I had reached such a high level of concentration that it was as if the car and I had become one.”
How it works
Three steps. About 15 minutes a day.

Read one email each day
Short, specific coaching from Ross. No fluff, no lectures.
Do the day’s task
About 15 minutes, at home, in the car or in the sim. Then watch it show up on track.
Your 30 days
A plan that builds, day by day.
Each day and week builds on the one before, so by day 30 you have a complete toolkit, and the habit of using it. And ultimately, a pre-performance routine to trigger your best driving.
Switch on
Define what your zone feels like, and learn to switch your brain on with Cross Crawls and Centering.
Program your mind
Use mental imagery with every sense to rehearse great laps, and build a trigger that recalls your best performance.
Take control
Get into a performance state of mind on cue, regain focus in a split second, and rewrite the beliefs that hold you back.
Your Zone Routine
Sharpen what you feel, hear and see, imagine driving at the limit, and pull it all into your own Zone Routine.
A taste of the program
Here’s what a day looks like
Every email is short, specific, and ends with one thing to do. Here are excerpts from two of them.
Right now, think about one of the greatest moments of your life, a time when you performed fantastically, at your best. It could be driving, but it could also be another sport, playing music, a hobby, something at work…
Give that experience a name. Naming it builds a trigger: a way to instantly recall the experience and the state of mind that goes with it.
P.S. The first time I raced an Indy car, the first practice session was wet. And I mean really, really wet. I ended that session in fifth place… I said it felt like I was “car dancing.” To this day, the moment I say or think “car dancing,” my mind is triggered back into that feeling.
The best drivers lose focus just as often as you do. The difference is that they regain it very quickly, almost immediately.
For now, use the trigger phrase “Eyes up – look ahead.” Right now, say “Eyes up – look ahead” out loud…
You’ve now begun programming what I call a Pre-Programmed Thought, or PPT. The second you notice you’re losing focus, say “Eyes up – look ahead.”
Today’s task: practice it all day. If someone cuts you off in traffic: “Eyes up – look ahead.” If you drop a wheel off the edge of the track, what are you going to say to yourself?
Results
What drivers have said after 30 days
“Autocross had always been a problem because I couldn’t get in the zone within the few timed runs we get. By the end of the 30 days I was confident and in the zone by my 2nd run, and I won my class for the first time!”
“My first race after the program was amazingly different. This time I was calm. I felt much more in control, which allowed me to drive better, and I had my best start ever.”
“A great learning tool to help with my focus, balance and mindset on track. Decreased my lap time, and my comfort behind the wheel is incredible!”
“When it came time for my TT run, I’ve never felt so focused. Having not driven the track in a year, I matched my personal best times very early on, and greatly exceeded them.”
“I used the program to prepare for the SCCA Runoffs. I was more calm, more in control, and approaching the limits of the car much more quickly than in the past.”

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?
The Zone Program is $59 for all 30 days of coaching, backed by a 100% money-back guarantee. Your first lesson arrives the day after you enroll.
How much time does it take?
About 15 minutes a day. Some tasks you’ll do at home, some in the car or the sim.
Do I need track time during the 30 days?
No. Much of it is mental training you can do anywhere. If you do have events coming up, you’ll get to use what you learn right away.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes. Do the 30 days. If you don’t feel more in control of your mental game, email me and I’ll refund every penny.
What exactly do I get?
A welcome email introducing the Performance Model the whole program is built on, then 30 coaching emails, one a day, starting the day after you enroll. Each one is short and ends with one specific task. Keep them, and you can repeat the program any time.
Does it work for sim racers?
Yes. Sim racer Don Pool used it while iRacing: “I saw clear improvement in going faster more quickly on a new track, with a new car. I was able to focus better.”
I’m new to performance driving. Is it too advanced?
Not at all. The sooner you learn how to manage your mind in the car, the faster you’ll progress.
What if I miss a day?
Pick up where you left off. The emails stay in your inbox, and many drivers run through the program a second time.
How is this different from reading Inner Speed Secrets?
The book explains the mental side of driving. The Zone Program has you practice it, one small task a day in a deliberate order, so the tools become habits and add up to your own pre-performance routine.
I did the Zone Challenge back in 2020. Is this the same program?
It started there, but it’s come a long way. Since 2020, I’ve used it with drivers I coach privately and refined it as I went: new lessons, a new order, the Performance Model as its foundation, and a final week that builds your own pre-performance Zone Routine. It’s been tested and proven far beyond that first version, so if you did the Zone Challenge, this will take you further.
I’ve tried mental training before and it didn’t stick. Will this be different?
That’s exactly what it’s designed for. Most of what people learn in a training program is forgotten within a few weeks, so instead of one big download, you get one small task a day for 30 days. As Shaad Ishmail put it: “The step-by-step set up of this program made it easy to get in the zone and stay there. If you can’t get your brain around mental training, let Ross’ experience do it for you.”
