“Driving the line” is a common phrase heard throughout the paddock when drivers are sharing stories. Okay, it’s a basic, but there are some who are not perfectly clear on what it really means, so here I’ve provided another definition.
The best performance and race drivers are able to adapt their driving to minimize the negative effects of these handling problems, and maximize their speed, despite them. But how?
What I learned was that if I entered each turn just a little faster than the grip level dictated (even just half a MPH too fast), I was ready for what the car was going to do. In fact, I made the car do what I wanted it to do. I was proactive.
