Speed Secret: HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) instructors… share personal experiences so students relate with you. But don’t relate too many mistakes; nor should you brag.

hpde-instructionAs a High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) instructor, the relationship you develop with your student is critical to his/her success. They need to feel confident in your abilities as an instructor first, and a driver second. Share a few short stories to build credibility, but don’t go overboard with the “war stories.” Come across as human – you’ve made mistakes, you’ve learned, and you’ve been successful. Find the right balance. Teaching, instructing, and coaching HPDE students and track day drivers is one of the most rewarding things you can ever do – so do it as well as you can!
