Race & Performance Driving Tip

Speed Secret: Although your skill level may have physical limits, your mind’s potential is limitless.

Okay, if your DNA has determined that you’re 7 foot tall, then driving a race car may not be in your future. That’s a “physical limitation” on what you can do in racing.

But your mind does not have limits. In the book, The Brain That Changes Itself, Norman Doidge, M.D., shares research and true stories about people who have what many would consider limits – learning challenges (ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome, etc.), strokes, and even visual restrictions – who have adapted their brains. If these people can do what they’ve done, performance or race drivers can do so much more with their minds than they’re currently doing.

Most would agree that performance and/or race driving is more mental than physical. In fact, one’s body (physical) does not do anything unless the brain tells it to do so – that makes this sport 100% mental.

My point is that you can always improve your mental abilities – and don’t buy into the age argument. Sure, it takes specific strategies, and I share many of these with my tips, books, eBooks, eCourses, and coaching. But take time to work on them yourself: prepare by using mental imagery, consider computer mental training applications, practice getting into your perfect performance state of mind, and so on.

As with your lap times… there’s always more.
